From January 1, 2021, the price of the standard green stamp will be over 1 euro. The French postal service La Poste justifies the price increase by “the acceleration of the decline in mail volumes”.

This is a milestone. In 2021, there will no longer be a French stamp at less than 1 euro, reports BFMTV.

La Poste announced last week that mail rates will increase by an average of 4.7% on January 1, 2021. The Authority for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Posts has approved this change in rates.

All stamp categories will increase

In detail:

  • the green stamp (mail delivered in 48 hours) will go from 97 cents to 1.08 euro (+11.3%)
  • the red stamp for a priority letter will rise from 1.16 to 1.28 euros (+10.3%)
  • the grey stamp (slow mail), will go from 95 cents to 1.06 euro (+11.6%)

It will be possible to get a 3% discount on the green and red stamps by buying them online.

In addition, the “tracking” sticker will go from 45 to 48 cents.

The prices of standard postal parcels sent to France (Colissimo) will rise by 1.6% on January 1, but the rate will remain unchanged for parcels weighing less than 250g.

Prices for industrial business mail will rise by 3.9% and those for direct marketing by 0.7%.

According to La Poste, this fare increase “helps to ensure the sustainability of the universal service,” in a “context of accelerating decline in the volume of mail” carried.
