France: a woman saved by a phone call from a friend who lives 500 km away
A man had the good idea to call the police forces of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (Vendée department, central-western France) on Saturday, August 29th, because he hadn’t heard from a friend for several days. Thanks to this phone call made from 500 km away, an old lady was saved. She had fallen at home.
It was 5 pm on Saturday, August 29th, when the switchboard of the National Gendarmerie of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in Vendée received a call from the Seine-Saint-Denis department, 500 km away. Over the phone, a man whom the gendarmes find difficult to understand, he says he is very worried and concerned about one of his friends. According to him, she lives in Brem-sur-Mer, he calls her regularly but she hasn’t answered for four or five days. A patrol of gendarmes went to the address that the man had given them, but it did not match the information he had provided.

Wrong address of the friend
However, the two soldiers refuse to believe in a hoax and continue their investigations. They knock on doors, interrogate the inhabitants, get help from their colleagues in the brigade who look at satellite images on the internet to find the house that matches the descriptions given. The two gendarmes finally find it. Their interlocutor had given them the right street, but not the right number.
Lying on the ground
The gendarmes go around the house and see that someone is inside. They call the fire brigade, who open the door and discover an old lady on the floor. She cannot get up. She fell several days ago. Alive, but very weakened. They then took her to the hospital in Les Sables d’Olonne.
