“Viral circulation remains strong in France”, warns the General Directorate of Health (Direction générale de la santé – DGS) in a press release on Monday, July 27. The French health authorities have recorded over 2,500 fresh cases of coronavirus contamination since last Friday, of which 514 in the last 24 hours, for 183,079 people infected since the beginning of the outbreak, according to data from Santé publique France.

The toll was 180,528 cases on Friday, with daily increases of around a thousand on the previous days. The increased number of confirmed cases on Monday does, however, include the catching-up of data from the weekend. “The latest epidemiological trends still show a slow deterioration,” said the DGS. In France, the epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus has now claimed 30,209 lives, with nine of them in the last 24 hours in hospitals.

The number of people admitted to hospital because of the Covid-19 has fallen further to 5,655. That’s 65 fewer than on Friday. The same applies to serious cases treated in intensive care units with 398 patients, or 12 fewer than on Friday.
