Activists from the social justice organization Attac unfurled a giant banner in front of the headquarters of French luxury group LVMH on Saturday and painted in black the facade of its Paris store La Samaritaine in protest of growing inequality.

The banner depicted France’s richest man, LVMH chief Bernard Arnault, and other billionaires, telecoms investor Patrick Drahi, the founder of luxury goods group Kering, François Pinault, and Françoise Bettencourt, the daughter of L’Oréal heiress Liliane Bettencourt. It reads: “The gang of profiteers.”

The activists said in a statement that the action was intended to protest “the shameless enrichment of billionaires at a time of health crisis.”

Attac calls for a windfall tax on the wealthiest individuals and multinationals.

LVMH could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Samaritaine store, which has been closed for seven years, reopened on June 23 after a seven-year renovation.
