In Aubagne, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department (Southeastern France), a family has terrible memories of their last meal at McDonald’s. On August 26th, 2020, around noon, a mother is about to order at the restaurant drive-through and to return home for the meal with her 5-year-old daughter and her husband, who had just returned from work, reports the local newspaper La Provence. While they were delighted to eat fast food, they quickly became disenchanted…

Maggots on the child’s menu

Sitting at the table, the family begins its meal before halting. “We heard our daughter dropping a ‘aaaaah’ as she unpacked her Happy Meal,” the parents recall. Stunned, they ask her what’s going on. “We then looked at the bottom of the box and there, awful… A moving maggot,” the young mother says. Immediately, the father grabs his daughter’s menu and goes back to McDonald’s expressing his displeasure. The situation then turned out to be even worse than what they had noticed at first glance. During the discussion with the managers, the sandwich falls to the floor, revealing dozens of maggots crawling inside.

The parents filed a complaint against McDonald’s

As compensation, a restaurant manager offers the family a free meal at McDonald’s for one week. The father immediately refused, before filing a complaint against the fast-food chain. “No, a week, a month, it doesn’t matter, they won’t see us here again. We’re disgusted with McDonald’s now,” explains the father.

With his wife and daughter, they are still shocked. “We find it outrageous. There is a certain lack of rigour and hygiene. Let people put themselves in our shoes. What could have happened to our daughter if she had eaten that? She is only 5 years old, it could have been very dangerous food poisoning for her at that age. We would at least like to have a screening in the restaurant,” says the couple.
