Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Wednesday, August 26th on France Inter radio that an economic recovery plan will be unveiled on September 3rd.

An economic recovery plan

While talking to France Inter, Jean Castex said that the economic recovery plan will be announced on September 3rd. “It is absolutely finalised, I remind you, we have already paid the back-to-school allowance ahead of the announcement of the plan,” the Prime Minister stated on the public radio.

He noted that €2 billion of the €100 billion earmarked for economic recovery will be devoted to culture.

Jean Castex also called for everyone to take responsibility for the wearing of masks.

“We must explain to everyone that the mask is extremely useful. If they don’t believe it for themselves, if they believe they are invincible, let them think of others, of medical staff… Are we going to repeat the same conditions we experienced? They all know vulnerable, elderly, sick people, so what does that mean? It means we’re going to infect others. I’m calling for a spirit of responsibility,” he stressed.

“We are not lowering our guard”

Asked about a mutation of the virus, which would be less violent than during the first wave, the Prime Minister also calls for caution.

“There is nothing in my possession that allows me to say that the virus has lowered its severity. We are not lowering our guard. But life must be stronger. We are going to do everything we can to get the French back to work, back to school, back to life, normally,” explained Jean Castex.

While the State announced that it would not provide the masks free to children for the start of the new school year, the Prime Minister spoke again on this debated issue.

“There is no universal gratuity of masks, just as there is none elsewhere. We target the vulnerable and the neediest”, justified Jean Castex.
