France: Aged 82, a woman makes her first parachute jump

Maïté Barsacq has fulfilled the dream of a lifetime despite the constraints of this parachute jumping and the events she has endured in her life.

It is common to say that one should not be afraid to take on sporting challenges. Maïté Barsacq, 82 years old, seems to have made the first parachute jump of her life in this state of mind, explains the online medium Brut who met her.

Followed from beginning to end by the website, the octogenarian seemed very comfortable making the jump with a professional.

“I didn’t ask myself whether I could do it. I wanted to do it, so I gave myself the means to do it,” she says in front of Brut’s cameras.

Because not all was easy. As she recalls, she went through hard times in her life and thought she would never walk again. “For a year, I couldn’t drive my car. I couldn’t walk,” she says to Brut, without ever considering giving up.

In the prime of life

Thanks to hard work and rehabilitation sessions with physiotherapists, Maïté has finally walked again and intends to enjoy her retirement to fulfil other dreams.

Moreover, it is her love for the sport that is reflected in this jump, describes Brut. Maïté Barsacq wanted to be a gymnastics teacher when she was little.

Today, regardless of her age, she feels a new youthfulness. “In my head, I’m not old. I still have a lot of wishes, I do a lot of things,” she says.
