The mayor of the village of Morez, in the Jura department of eastern France, bought a house in which he discovered a treasure.

Discovery of a treasure estimated at 500,000 euros

A veritable treasure, worth 500,000 euros, was discovered in a village in the department of Jura. The town council bought a house that “belonged to four brothers and sisters who never married”.

These brothers and sisters “lived a little sparsely and a little reclusive”. Following their deaths, the heir, a distant cousin, sold the house.

“Jars of jam were filled with coins and ingots”

The mayor bought the house for 130,000 euros. In June, during the lockdown period, the mayor started cleaning up the house. It was Martine Riallan, general manager of services, who discovered the gold ingots and coins, the newspaper Le Parisien reports.

Indeed, the mayor said: “It was the director who got her hands on them in a cupboard, at the bottom of a shelf”, according to RTL radio. The elected representative also added: “Jars of jam were filled with coins and ingots”.
