Wearing uniforms at school is a topic of great conversation

While young girls are protesting against the “proper dress” required by most schools, the Minister of Education urged on Monday, September 21st, “a republican dress”. This recommendation by Jean-Michel Blanquer has reactivated the debate on school uniforms.

23% of the French “very favourable,” and 40% “rather favourable”

According to a BVA poll for RTL/Orange, published on Friday, September 25th, 63% of French people are supportive of the wearing of uniforms in schools. They are 40% “rather favourable” and 23% “very favourable”. Some 12% of those surveyed, however, say they are “totally opposed” and 24% “rather opposed”.

Young people are the most in favour of the uniform

The survey shows that women (67%) are more in favour of school uniforms than men (60%). Young people are also more likely to agree with this practice. It turns out that 67% of those surveyed are under 35 years of age. Among the 50 to 64-year-olds, only 56% approve of uniforms at school.
