A man living in the Seine-et-Marne department (Paris region) parked his car in a car park of the Indigo company in Paris for four hours. Because of a computer bug, the ticket displayed an enormous amount of 170,932 euros.

An enormous amount

Roland, 62, a resident of Seine-et-Marne had his share of surprises on Saturday, September 19th. He parked his car at the Indigo car park of Saint-Sulpice in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. After having stayed there for four hours, they charged him 170,392 euros, according to the RTL radio, following a report in the newspaper Le Parisien.

Because of a computer bug

The daily reported that this was because of a computer bug, as one out of every two parking tickets showed drivers the exorbitant amount of 170,392 euros to be paid. To get out, the 60-year-old contacted the company Indigo, as he had decided against paying such an amount.

No agent on-site to help users

His misfortune continued, however, because there was no one in the car park to help the users, notes the Capital magazine. Roland had to wait over 20 minutes for someone to answer him using the connecting terminal. “In our exchange, the person who spoke to me seemed more worried about my payment than about the malfunction and the unlikely situation I was in,” the 60-year-old laughs.

Over 40 minutes of waiting in the car park

After 45 minutes of talking and waiting, they finally allowed the motorist to leave the car park. He had to give his number plate and telephone number to the person he was talking to. According to a local newspaper, two days later Roland received a text message from Indigo requesting him to pay the actual bill for the much more affordable amount of 15.90 euros.
